Florida Air Museum
The Florida Air Museum has a rich history dating back to the 1980s when it was envisioned as an aviation museum to complement the SUN ‘n FUN Fly-In. With a goal to provide year-round education and preserve the region’s aviation heritage, a dedicated committee secured land from the City of Lakeland and established the museum on the SUN ‘n FUN campus near Lakeland Linder International Airport.
In 2014, the museum underwent significant changes by aligning its mission with the Aerospace Center for Excellence on the SUN ‘n FUN Expo campus. This new direction aimed to educate, engage, and inspire the next generation of aerospace professionals. The museum’s exhibits were transformed to include interactive STEM displays, a family-friendly discovery area, and the integration of arts into their programs.
Today, the Florida Air Museum stands as a testament to the passion for aviation and serves as an educational hub, showcasing the fascinating history and advancements in aerospace. Visitors of all ages can explore the exhibits, delve into the world of flight, and gain a deeper understanding of the vital role aviation plays in our lives.
